A feladat (Esettanulmány)

The brief

An eroding slope, standing water, worn footpaths.

The rear courtyard of the building had been neglected for years: an eroding slope, weedy ground, water standing after rain, and worn footpaths that were a safety risk. The client wanted a solution that would look good and still be maintainable years later.

The client set out three priorities: safe access, low maintenance, and a shared space where people can sit down. After the site survey, those three priorities shaped every step of the design.

The brief

The solution

The solution

Four interventions,
a courtyard planned for ten years.

Slope stabilization and drainage

Geotextile combined with ground-cover shrubs, plus a soakaway trench for rainwater. The erosion has stopped and water no longer stands on the surface.

Stepping-stone paths

We laid stepping stones in gravel beds along the lines people had already worn. The routes stayed the same, only now they are safe.

Automatic irrigation

A zoned, timed system with a rain sensor. Water use is now lower than it was with hand watering.

Low-maintenance planting

Drought-tolerant perennials, ornamental grasses and a hornbeam hedge. Chemical-free care, maintainable in four visits a year.
